The Prophet’s Mystical Night Journey – Miraj

In today’s khutbah we shall look at the events of Miraj and Isra, our prophet (SAW)’s Mystical Night Journey and his Ascension into the Heavenly Spheres. These two events are described in the Qur’an:
“Glory to [Allah] Who did take His Servant on a journey by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Farthest Mosque, whose precincts We sanctified; in order that We might show him some of Our Signs: for Allah is He who hears and sees everything.” Continue reading

Being Truthful: the Qur’an and the Example of the Prophet (SAW)

In today’s khutbah I would like to discuss what Islam teaches about lying and honesty by pulling in ayahs and hadiths which will serve as perfect exemplars for our actions. Muslims are required to adhere to ethics and to adopt a strong moral code as a compass. This can best be seen from the life of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). The Prophet’s mission, had, by this time, been completed to all intents and purposes. Continue reading

The Prophet of Universal Mercy

This week’s khutba is linked to the concept of the Prophet of Universal Mercy. The beginning of existence was an act of mercy and compassion. Without mercy the universe would be in chaos. Everything has come into existence through compassion and by compassion it continues to exist in harmony. Continue reading

In Praise of the Prophet

Today, I’d like to begin my khutba by stressing the point that it is among the prescriptions of Islam to recite Salutations and Blessings upon Allah’s Messenger (saw) as is evident in the following Qur’anic verse : “Verily, Allah and His Angels send (shower) blessings on the Prophet, O you who believe! Send upon him blessings and salute him fully well in abundance” (Surah al-Ahzab: 56). Continue reading
